Ways by which Facebook hack can leak your password

Nowadays, social media platforms are a way to cut boredom. Whenever we get free time during work or studies, what we do is take out our phones and browse. Online platforms are very addictive, especially for the younger generation. This addiction has brought profit for many social media platforms, mainly Facebook. According to the statistics, Facebook is the leading social media platform with around two billion users worldwide. Naturally, Facebook has turned into a hunting ground for Facebook hack and identity thieves. They are compromising millions of accounts daily. Hackers deploy many techniques to compromise your accounts including social engineering, password hack, Fake accounts, etc. In most cases, they are finding success.

As far as modern Facebook hackers are concerned, they are focussing on hacking passwords for an easy compromise. Experts have categorized Facebook password hacking into 4 different methods:

  • Facebook Phishing attack
  • Hacking password using Keyloggers and RAT’s
  • Hacking the primary email address
  • Guessing or social engineering

Facebook phishing & Facebook hack

Facebook phishing happens when the hackers try to get access to your Facebook account by using malicious links, messages, or attachments. When clicked, these links or attachments can lead to infected websites containing malware. This malware gets into your Facebook account and gradually takes control of them causing Facebook hack. They can also cause a threat to your system. Once they compromise your account, they will use it for sending spam and links to your friends.

If you have unknowingly entered your Facebook login credentials into a strange link, the Facebook hacker who set up this link can access your account with these credentials. If this happens, immediately change the account password before the hacker changes it. If it is too late, try to recover your account.

Using Keyloggers

Compared to phishing, the keylogging method is less popular as it takes time and is a lengthy process. Here the hacker makes use of a hack tool to take over your password. Once the hack tool is downloaded, they will create a keylogger and share it with the target. This method of Facebook hack becomes easier when hackers have physical access to your system. Once they get into your system, they will install the keylogger and all your activities will be recorded including your Facebook password.

To prevent keylogger attacks, it is better to have a strong firewall system. The firewall protects the networks and blocks any information from going out of the system. Password managers can also help you with this task. Once you set up a password manager, they help to protect the entire password and even help you in creating new complex ones.

Using email address in Facebook hack

To perform Facebook hack, hackers sometimes get hold of your email address first. Once they get hold of it, they can easily access your Facebook account by clicking “Forgot password”. They will use this to send the reset link to your primary email address which they had already hacked.  Gradually, they will take down your Facebook account. The best thing you can do to avoid this situation is to set up a strong and complex password for your email. Never put the same password for your email and Facebook. This becomes easy for hackers to compromise accounts.

To avoid this situation, always log out from email and Facebook while you are using public devices. There are instances where people log in to accounts from cybercafés or maybe a friend’s system. Whatever the case, once the work is done, log out from your account and clear the browsing history for safety.

Guessing password/ Social engineering

To guess a person’s password is not an easy process. To understand the password, the hacker gets close to the target. They slowly create a bond so that they can leak necessary information from the target. This technique is generally referred to as social engineering. Using the gathered information, they either guess the password or will find the answer to the security question. Sometimes, without contacting the target, Facebook hack collect information from the profile and guess the password using them. This is the main reason why you shouldn’t update more personal information on Facebook.

To prevent social engineering:
  • Delete/ block all the requests for personal information and passwords
  • Avoid requests for help or those offers help
  • Adjust your spam filter to high
  • Protect your devices with a strong anti-virus system.
